GETTING HERE

Marathon is known as the Gateway to Big Bend National Park, located on US Hwy 90 where it joins US 385 South.

FROM MIDLAND / ODESSA:

Marathon's nearest commercial airport is Midland International, a distance of about 160 miles (258 km) and 2 1/2 hours, where rental cars are available.

From the Midland International (which is halfway between Midland and Odessa), drive west toward Odessa, picking up Interstate 20 to Monahans. Then take the last Monahans exit off I-20, US 18 south, and drive through Royalty and Grandfalls to Fort Stockton.

At Fort Stockton, cross West Dickinson Ave., and turn right along Railroad Avenue for a few blocks until a sign indicates Marathon and Big Bend National Park to the left, which is Highway 385 South.

As you drive south on Highway 385, you will cross the Glass Mountains and enter the Marathon Basin. Continue along 385 South to US 90, turn right, drive past the Hwy 385 sign to Big Bend National Park, and Marathon is just ahead.

FROM EL PASO:

Some visitors also fly to the El Paso International airport, west of Marathon about 4 hours (about 250 miles / 402 km). From El Paso drive east along Interstate 10, then turn south at US 90 (at Van Horn), and then drive through Marfa and Alpine before reaching Marathon.
