Marathon, Texas

Welcome to Marathon

Marathon is a thriving tourist destination along U.S. 90 with distinctive hostelries, restaurants, shops and galleries related to its location in the historic and picturesque Big Bend of West Texas. The area, and Big Bend National Park just 40 miles south of Marathon, was given the name because it is defined by the Rio Grande River's bend to the south, and then north again, as it flows to the Gulf of Mexico. With a view of Iron Mountain to the north and Santiago Peak to the south, Marathon is blessed with a dry high-desert climate that assures cool evening breezes in summer and a few snowy days in winter. Its nighttime skies, unmarred by urban light pollution, guarantee unexpected pleasures in discovery of the stars and planets. The town offers Big Bend accommodations to suit every budget.
